It’s November 1st (wow!)
This is a time of year when we would normally be preparing for time with family on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. For some people, these times are joyous while it’s not so fun for others.
Personally, this time of year is bittersweet. On one hand, I love spending more time with my wife, our kids, and my wife’s awesome family. But I also miss my deceased mother and father more during this time of year. It’s difficult to balance the emotions.
When I wake up and see my wife and kids’ faces, it reminds me of the importance of family and how God designed the family to be units of light in this dark world. But what if you’re not close to any of your relatives? Maybe you’re closer to your church family or a friend. That’s great! Jesus teaches us that people with whom we’re not related by blood can be considered family. The point is to be thankful for the positive people who are in your life.
What about toxic family relationships? Things aren’t always peaceful between family members. If you’re having issues with a family member, pray for healing and work toward reconciliation if possible. I know that family dynamics can be complex and repairing a relationship isn’t always an easy task. Thankfully, love, faith, and forgiveness can heal some of the wounds from unhealthy family relationships. Whatever the case, remain hopeful and try to keep your joy.
I hope this message was helpful.
‘Til next time!
