8 Things I "Learned" in 2020
It's almost 2021! Bring it on!
But while it’s still 2020, I'm happy to share with you some things that I "learned" this year. I'm putting "learned" in quotes because some lessons are things that I rediscovered or found a new appreciation for.
Family and friends are more sacred than I had previously thought.
Not being able to spend time with loved ones because of Covid has been hard on me. Limited visits with family (especially those with health conditions), virtual church services...it has all been really challenging. This year has undoubtedly taught me the importance of family.
Faith in Jesus is invaluable.
2020 helped me focus on my relationship with Jesus. There were so many things that happened this past year that one could be grumpy about, but I realized even more that my relationship with Jesus is the only foundation for gratitude and hope. What a blessing it is to be rich in Christ.
Starting a business during a pandemic and economic crisis helps you become more resourceful and resilient.
My company, Nao Media, partnered with SuperDeluxe Marketing to form NeoLuxe Marketing in June 2020. There were some lean months but we will end 2020 in the black (profitable) and we just closed a huge deal this month (thank God!). I've definitely become a better, tougher entrepreneur through this experience.
I love making music.
I used to make music non-stop from high school through the early 2000s. I stopped after having kids and getting busy with my marketing agency.
I've rediscovered the joy of music production this year. It's been really fun to create new soundscapes! Lord willing, you will hear some new music from me in 2021!
I can survive without watching sports.
Life didn't stop in March of 2020. There was plenty of other more important stuff to do and be concerned about -- staying healthy, helping with homeschooling our kids, and running a business to name a few.
I miss playing sports.
I used to play pick up basketball twice a week, but Covid took that away. Playing basketball is my favorite workout. But not only that, I love the relationships and comradery formed when playing with a team. I can't wait to return to the court. Sign me up for that vaccine, baby!
It’s a Wonderful Life is one of the best movies ever made.
I’m not a big movie watcher. There are many classic movies that I haven’t seen in their entirety (including Star Wars and The Color Purple).
I watched It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve with the family and really enjoyed it! There are so many good life lessons in the movie. Four of the biggest ones are the importance of good relationships, the benefits of having a caring heart, the power of prayer, and the importance of loving people and not money.
Rest, diet, and exercise are vital.
The pandemic forced me to slow down and consider my rest and health a lot more. I started a new diet and began exercising at home. I’m feeling stronger and more energized, which helps just about everything!
Yes, 2020 has been tough, but there were so many blessings that I received this year. I’m praying for a “smoother” 2021 and the healing of many broken hearts.
